Place the thermostat probe at the location you want to control — on the basking surface for basking regulation, or on the enclosure floor for ambient/belly heat control. Match the thermostat type to your heat source: on/off thermostats work well for heat mats and CHEs; dimming or pulse proportional thermostats are better for basking bulbs and DHPs. Never run any heat source without a thermostat.
