Maximum airflow, serious odor control, and zero prep time. ReptiChip Coarse is the ready-to-use, pre-hydrated version of the legendary ReptiChip formula — in a chunkier, coarser chip size designed for keepers who want maximum airflow and drainage alongside the humidity retention coconut chip is known for.
What it is
A ready-to-use, coarse-grade coconut chip substrate. The larger chip size creates more air pockets within the substrate bed, improving airflow and drainage compared to finer options — while still maintaining excellent moisture retention and odor control. Pre-hydrated and ready to use straight out of the bag.
What it's used for
- Primary substrate for larger reptile species that benefit from a chunkier substrate texture
- Enclosures where airflow and drainage are priorities alongside humidity retention
- Bioactive builds where a coarser substrate supports better microfauna movement
- Keepers who prefer a more textured, naturalistic substrate appearance
May be appropriate for
- Adult ball pythons, boa constrictors, and larger tropical snake species
- Monitors, tegus, and other large lizards that move through substrate heavily
- Species in bioactive setups where substrate aeration supports cleanup crew activity
- Any keeper who prefers a coarser chip format for their enclosure
Specs
- Chip size: Coarse — larger chunks for maximum airflow and drainage
- Ready to use — pre-hydrated, no prep required
- Excellent odor control and humidity regulation
- Premium coconut husk construction
Husbandry notes
Coarse chip substrates drain and dry faster than finer options — monitor moisture levels and mist as needed to maintain appropriate humidity for your species. The larger chip size is less suitable for very small animals or hatchlings that may have difficulty moving through it. Spot-clean regularly and replace fully every 3–6 months.
If you've been using medium ReptiChip and want better airflow without sacrificing humidity performance, coarse is the natural next step. Particularly popular for larger snake enclosures and bioactive builds.
